What would you wear from Fashion Week?

Of course the clothes may be a little out of our price range...However we can take away some fantastic hair looks from the shows and wear those!  Our Top Stylist from the Chester Salon Hanna, has a look at what looks from LFW16 you can take away and make into wearable every day styles!

The show that is on everyone's mind right now is of course Alexander McQueen, and all the hair accessories!
If you are a brave one , mismatch the hair jewelry and put them randomly in the hair, or If you like a more sophisticated look a lá Peter Pilotto . Seen on London fashion week.

WET LOOK HAIR!
To copy the look , as seen on Simone Rocha LFW, you need to wet your hair and then use a gel , let it dry naturally , simple as that and you will be the coolest on the party!
From our range in Tommys, we recommend "Scruff Me" from L'oreal Techni Art . Get it in your nearest Tommy's salon!

LOW PONY TAIL!
Is it time for a hair wash but you don't have the time ? The low ponytail will save your day! Seen on Proenza Shouler show for NYFW . Take a piece of your hair and wrap around the bobble and make it stay with a clip , for a nice little detail.

PONY TWIST!
Or go for a ponytail with a twist , spotted on Prabal Gurung on NYFW.  A good hairspray is a really good investment to take rid of fluff and baby hair .  We recommend Kerastase Laque Noire or Coutoure hair spray , available in your local Tommy's Salon!

I just want a trim!

We know how it can be.  You wake up in the morning, walk in to the bathroom and 'BOOM' you're confronted with the image of Bigfoot on a bad  hair day.

The first thing that runs through your head?  "I need a hair appointment!" You have us on speed dial (naturally) so it takes 30 seconds to get through to us.  But...What is that...?  Fully booked?!?! Then we hear the words  "I just want a trim! It won't take long!"

We know how long it takes to deliver our Award Winning Service, and 'squeezing you in' won't give you a quarter of what we aim to deliver.  We deliver what we call 'Swan Service' which means that on the Salon Floor, everything looks graceful and peaceful.  Meticulously simple, almost automatic in fact!  Whilst behind the scenes a lot of work is going into making that Swan look like it's gliding across the water!  So here is how we make it look like a well oiled machine....Call it 'A day in the life of Tommy's'.

08:45am The Front of House Coordinators arrive in the Salon and begin their morning routines.  This includes walking through the Salon detailing maintenance issues, creating task lists for the team during the day, and calculating figures and daily notes to pass on to the team about each Guests likes and dislikes.

09:00 All of our Team Members are trained to always be 15 minutes early for us, as well as outside appointments.  Our morning meetings (called 'Express' Meetings) are held 15 minutes before our first service at 09:30, so everyone arrives at 09:00 if they want to settle in, grab themselves a coffee or tea, and have a chat about what happened at the BRIT or BHA Awards, or whatever the latest news may be!

09:15 - The Team are in full uniform, ready to have the meeting of what awaits them in the appointment book that day. Everyone who is on the floor that day is present, from Manager to Assistant, to hear what is coming up in the day, with each Guests like and dislikes, as well as Company wide news from the PR & Marketing Department and Directors as well as the logistics of the appointment book throughout the day.

09:25 - Team Members look through their columns on our computer to make personal notes on each appointment and create an action plan for the day.

09:30 - The Salon comes to life! And the day begins. As you can see by the appointment book, there are lots of appointments on any given day, as a lot of our Guests prefer to book ahead. Every single appointment in this week is pre-booked.   There is very little time in between each appointment.  All appointments include a dedicated consultation time, as well as a little breathing space to fit in the Guests who call to book their complimentary fringe trims.

Our Guest Managers manage the book like a military operation!  This ensures that each Guest gets the full amount of time with their Stylist for their Service.  They have a handbook filled with policies and procedures to follow, which help keep each Salon running smoothly and efficiently.

As you can see, it's pretty tight!  Our Front of House Team are trained to utilise our Salon waiting list, which means that as soon as a cancellation comes up, the list is referenced for the people who have said that they can come at that time or that day.  If you have a flexible schedule, it's obviously a great idea to book your next appointment ahead, and this can be changed with a minimum of 48 hours notice.  But what if you aren't flexible on times and days?  We appreciate people are busy, which is why we offer a scheduling system.  We will put your appointment in at your preferred time, day, and recurrence.  You work late on a Thursday and can't be in the Salon until 6:30pm on your favourite Stylists late night? No problem... We will pop an appointment in for you every six weeks at 6:30 on a Thursday evening, and you confirm the next one as you go.

So as you can see, we work super hard to make sure that everyone gets a time and date they prefer...All you need to do is book ahead! Whilst we do all the hard work behind the scenes to prevent those Bigfoots creeping into your bathroom mirror :)

Our Ice Bucket Challenge!

Of course, it was inevitable that we were going to be nominated at some point for an ice bucket challenge!  We do believe, that ALS is a very worthy cause, seeing what those people go through genuinely touched us, and we can completely understand why so many are helping raise awareness to make the condition manageable for it's victims.

We also felt, at the Ruthin Salon, that there was another very worthy cause, and it is located much closer to our home, and hearts.  Freya Bailey is a 4 year old girl who has a form of cerebral palsy which currently prevents her from walking without a frame or unaided.  There is a window of opportunity to raise money to give Freya a life changing operation which means that she will be able to run, skip, jump, and walk like any other four year old should be able to.

This means sending her to a specialised hospital in the USA, and amazingly she has been deemed suitable for the operation, and they believe that it holds a high chance of success.  This, however, means raising £65,000 to help her and her family get there to deliver this life changing surgery.   To help her along, we donated our ice bucket challenge to Freya, and we nominated three other local businesses to do the same.

So here it is, our nomination, and if you think you could help change this little girls life, then visit www.justgiving.com/freyasfreedom and donate, or text 'FFJG65 £3' to 70070. You can also follow Freya's progress, and any fundraising events if you wish to help at www.facebook.com/freyasfreedom

Packing for holidays!

Everyone knows what it's like.  You are packing your suitcase, and amongst the 7 bikini's, 5 pairs of shorts, and countless maxi dresses, you have to get your entire shelf of haircare products condensed into just one bag... ooookkkaaaayyyyyy.

Here are our tips on packing the essentials this holiday. Courtesy of our lovely team!

1. Anti Frizz - Battling the Beach look?  Here are Jennalea's comments on keeping the frizz at bay "The key is to get yourself some hydrating masks, conditioners, and some UV protective gel or serum.  Secondly, stay away from the sea water!  We know that's impossible, so the key thing to do is ensure that your hair hydrated before it hits the sea.  Salt Water really messes up your hair, giving it a frizzy look.  If there is no way you can avoid the pool or sea, then hydrate it with masks and serum, then rinse in the shower before you hit the pool" (yes...the one that is usually located right by the pool and always runs freezing cold!)  This hydration will stop so much chlorine / sea water getting into the hair, preventing the level of frizz you are used to!  Simply condition and rinse after the sea/pool, and put it up into a bun or top knot for evening!

2. Protect, protect, protect. Sally of our Chester Salon rather passionately states "Everyone wonders what the point in putting UV protection on their hair is. Your hair and your skin are basically made out of the same stuff! Would you go outside in that scorching sun without wearing sun cream?  The hair can become weak, brittle, sun damaged, colour faded, and unmanageable".  Use a good quality UV protecting spray or put on a sun hat!  Include in your packing a shampoo which also protects your colour from the sun.  There are some amazingly brilliant colour protecting shampoos out there now. Nobody wants to look like they've just jumped out of bed and straight on holiday.  Get your colour done before you go, and protect it whilst away! You will look and feel better for it.  Plus you won't get stared at for having that lovely big stripe on the top of your head all holiday.

3. Electric style - You go on holiday, and after a day of being in the sun with no decent conditioner or serum, jumping in and out of the sea, and thinking you need to sort your frizzy hair out, you decide that straightening it (let's be honest probably without heat protection as you forgot to pack it) or curling it will make you look human again.  Take note of the previous steps, and simply shampoo, condition and leave.  Camilla, Creative Stylist at the Ruthin Salon says "Pack the tongs not the straighteners, and when dry, shape and curl random sections to give a much more groomed look when you hit the bar that night, you can concentrate on having a good time and not moaning about the humidity making your hair curl even though you only straightened it 45 minutes ago.  If you can't beat it, join it". So true Camilla!

4.  Accessories! You want to 'jush' your look whilst away with minimal effort? Pack a couple of accessories this holiday. Tommy says  "Loose knots and messy buns can all be fixed with a couple of kirby grips, and then teased and clipped with diamantĂ© grips, flowery slides, or tasteful hair clips.  Or even simpler, wear a teased ponytail.  Once cleansed, conditioned and treated, pull the hair back, put in ponytail, then take a section of your hair and wrap around the bobble, securing in place underneath with a kirby grip.  Then continue to back comb the pony with your fingers.  The look will be casual, yet fashion forward".

So what do you need in summary?

Products - UV Protecting Shampoo, conditioner, and mask / serum
Tools - Hairdryer (if the hotel doesn't have one) Curling tongs
Accessories - Grips, slides, and other pretty things.

Stay tuned and we will be recommending some products for you over the coming days.

Well she has been away from the scene for a little while but she is back! We asked Sally Matischok, now of the Chester Branch, what she's seen on the scene recently, and what she thinks is going to translate down on the High Street this Spring/Summer.  Looks like it's going to be 90's revival minimum hair and
bold art-box colours (not just block either, think hair chalk patterns!!), messy styles, and inventive hair up!  We love it!
